When the Advice Made It Worse
Every so often someone tells me, carefully, that they did what they were told and it made things worse.
They took the advice. They read the book, kept the log, had the conversation, followed the counsel they were given in an office by someone who meant well. And the thing they were promised would help did not help. It made the shame louder, or the distance wider, or their spouse more defended than before.
From Daniel’s essay When the Advice Made It Worse. The link opens its public preview; the complete essay is for members.

Questions before joining
Do I need the course to join?
No. The course and the Inner Circle are separate offers. Choose membership for in-depth essays and the current working-book reader, or the course for a structured private curriculum. The general adult community is free; joining it requires neither purchase.
Do I have to post?
No. Paid members can read essays without posting. Joined adult community accounts can read eligible forum discussions without posting and choose a display name when participating.
